ABOUT:
The reality is that soft plastics & flexible packaging use some of the most challenging materials to be able to collect in mechanical recycling facilities, a high volume ends up in landfill and has low recovery rates in Australia and New Zealand. Recognising these challenges has brought the industry across the two countries together to collaborate, improve recyclability, collection and create a circular economy for soft plastics and flexibles.

This panel will provide insight and discuss the challenges across the recent soft plastics recovery projects such as the Australasian Packaging Innovation & Design (PIDA) Award winning Australia-first onshore circular satchel by Australia Post, which is made in the SPEC facility by iQRenew, the proof-of-concept KitKat wrapper made from soft plastics pyrolysis oil developed by Viva Energy, the supermarket collection programs across ANZ, and the important role that the Soft Plastics Stewardship Australia (SPSA) plays to help bring the industry together.

The impetus has been created in Australia & New Zealand. The success of these and other facilities and programs relies heavily on the industry coming together to support the investment that has already been made in the region. Now is the time to collaborate across the entire value chain to ensure that end markets are supported, viable and sustainable for long-term growth.
