Enabling Nanotechnologies in the Australian Agri-Food Sector

CSIRO’s Food Innovation Centre, in collaboration with the National Food Safety and Integrity Taskforce, is hosting this workshop with Australian and International experts in food nanotechnology. Nanotechnology in the food industry has been identified by the Safe Food Forum as a key priority for further work. CSIRO has arranged for Dr Chaudhry, who will be visiting Australia from the UK, and other speakers to attend this workshop. Dr Chaudhry is the newly appointed Professor of Food Innovation and Safety at the University of Chester, UK, and a Member on the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS), Luxembourg. Prior to this, Dr Chaudhry was a long-standing Principle Research Scientist/Advanced Research Fellow at the Food and Environment Research Agency (FERA), UK, and Member on the Scientific Committee of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), Italy.
Focus areas will include:
- An overview of the current and projected applications for nanotechnologies in the agri-food industries
- The current regulatory status in Australia and New Zealand
- Key concerns, knowledge gaps, and barriers to uptake
- The value proposition for nanotechnology in Australian agri-food sector
