Senior Packaging (Carton) Designer

Our people are our success, and WestRock has an opportunity for a Senior Designer to join our team at our office in North Richmond, NSW.

The opportunity:

As a Senior Designer you will be leading the design of products and packaging from concept to completion. You will gather project data from WestRock sales, project managers and customers, create designs in the Computer Assisted Design (CAD) program, solicit and incorporate customer feedback, and create prototypes for customer approval.

What you will need to succeed:

  • A minimum of 4 years of packaging design or relevant industry experience.
  • Knowledge on folding carton manufacturing process – (layout , die-cutting & gluing).
  • Advanced computer skills with, preferably using ArtiosCAD or similar packaging design software and other design tools.
  • Reliable, punctual and a team player.
  • Ability to autonomously manage workload.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility for occasional travel across the Sydney region, interstate and overseas.
  • Knowledge of current industry trends on printing, graphics and software, and provides strategic thought leadership on how to leverage and build relevant capabilities.
  • Accountable partner for manufacturing, both converting and automation.
  • Understands the implications of design choices in manufacturing and has demonstrated responsibility for balancing customer/market needs with mitigating complexity.

Responsibilities & Key knowledge:

  • Manage design and development of packaging designs
  • Maintaining highest levels of customer satisfaction in managing design related responsibilities for key accounts and projects through timely and independent execution of deliverables including prototypes, white samples and graphic mock-ups.
  • Making creative and compelling visuals.
  • Recognized expertise with design software and tools to enhance our processes and workflow to improve productivity and profitability.
  • Knowledge of fit-for-use testing methods.
  • Experience with design to automation and carton/machine compatibility would be an advantage.
  • Creating creative and compelling visuals.
  • Oversee carton manufacturing test runs and trials
  • Cross departmental interaction extending manufacturing capability, driving efficiency, reducing cost and waste minimisation.
  • Seek improvements and enhancements to existing products through re-design to eliminate excess cost and help streamline production processes (Value Engineering).
