About the role
Are you ready to lead innovative solutions to get everyone clucking?! We are seeking an experienced Senior Packaging Development Technologist to join our Henderson based team, reporting to the Head of Research & Development. This is an exciting opportunity to lead Tegel Foods packaging development portfolio with a significant influence on the sustainability of the packaging materials we use throughout the business. This is a fast paced and varied role where your flexibility and ability to deal with challenging situations will be key to your success. Joining the R&D team means you will be enabled to bring your best you to work every day with a supportive, fun, and creative environment.
You will be required at times to travel to our factories in Christchurch and New Plymouth.
A day in the life of the role
- Lead the development of packaging solutions for NPD working as part of a cross functional team.
- Identify and manage cost reduction initiatives ensuring these projects maintain quality and product integrity without negatively impacting market position.
- Develop relationships with key packaging suppliers to ensure Tegel has early access to future thinking and latest technologies in printing and packaging technology.
- Work closely with Operations on identifying and recommending packaging machinery and processes to meet future business needs.
- Lead sustainable packaging initiatives for the business to meet Tegel sustainability plan goals.
- Leadership and direction of the packaging team (2 direct reports)
What will you bring?
- Tertiary qualification an Engineering/Technology/Science or similar discipline and/or extensive experience in Packaging Technology
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a packaging role
- Excellent communicator with superior attention to detail in both written & verbal communication.
- Good project management skills
- Ability to build effective relationships and influence without authority.
- Drive for results
- Sound understanding and experience in Packaging Development within the product development process, from concept through to commercial production.
- A passion for packaging sustainability
- Having previous experience in food contact barrier packaging and corrugated cardboard is advantageous.
