One of the latest partners of the AIP is PIQET, the online tool that helps material suppliers, packaging companies and brand owners to optimise the environmental performance of their packaging designs.

PIQET enables users to undertake streamlined Life Cycle Assessments of their packaging systems to:

  • Compare and benchmark design options and improvements
  • Identify hot spots to improve sustainability throughout the supply chain
  • Communicate environmental benefits effectively
  • Build capacity in their teams to integrate sustainability into their business decisions

PIQET is robust enough for LCA specialists to use, but its powerful, adapted interface means that packaging designers, marketing professionals and other colleagues can be producing their own assessments in as little as 30 minutes with limited training.

Many of you would have already heard of PIQET, with leading companies across the world using it for over 10 years. In April 2016 it was purchased by the Melbourne based consultancy lifecycles led by Tim Grant. Lifecycles are currently redeveloping PIQET to integrate a whole range of new functionality – including flexible report formats, unlimited scenario comparisons, location finder with GIS transport calculator and product waste assessment – whilst simplifying the modelling environment and enabling company customisation of datasets to make assessments even easier.

PIQET was with us for our national conference in Melbourne to engage with the Australian Packaging industry and catch up with some of their clients. They will be running a workshop at “Sustainable Brands” in Sydney on Wednesday 29th June on bridging the gap between product sustainability information and corporate reporting.

The PIQET team will be sharing examples of how their clients use life cycle assessment to gain competitive advantage, and previews of the PIQET 4.0 over the coming months.
