Bill was commissioned by the Australasian Bioplastics Association in mid 2024 to undertake an independent assessment of the risks and benefits of certified compost products in food organics & garden organics (FOGO) recovery systems in Australia.
This webinar will focus on the outcomes of this assessment including;
- The role of certified compostable products in the Circular Economy
- The importance of science based decision making in order to dispel the myths and risks
- Barriers to recovery of urban/municipal organic resources.

Bill Grant
Bill Grant is an agricultural and environmental scientist with extensive experience in organic resource recovery, compost and soil science and agronomy. In a professional career spanning over 35 years, Bill has worked as an agronomic field crops research and extension officer, research scientist, industry eco-efficiency adviser, environment protection officer, and environmental consultant and co-owner of an environmental consultancy specialising on organic resource recovery. Since 2022 he has worked as a Research Fellow at Federation University’s Future Regions Research Centre focussing on the use of organic soil amendments and land management practices to increase soil depth and drought resilience. At various times during his career as well as currently, Bill has undertaken several multi-year agronomic trials of compost and land management use across Australia in cropping, horticulture and viticulture, and has undertaken field research into on-farm and other composting systems. He is a committed environmentalist and dedicated to the development to more sustainable food production systems. In 2024, Bill undertook an independent assessment of the risks and benefits of certified compost products in food organics & garden organics (FOGO) recovery systems in Australia
