The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) is pleased to announce that in the latest round of the WorldStar Packaging Awards, Australian & New Zealand companies received the third highest amount of wins in the world behind Japan and Germany. This is the third year in a row that the region has dominated the global awards program, which is a true reflection of the innovative packaging designs being developed in the Southern Hemisphere. Only winners from the Australasian Packaging Innovation & Design (PDIA) awards are eligible in the region to enter the prestigious global WorldStar Packaging awards, that are run by the World Packaging Organisation (WPO).

The latest round of WorldStar Packaging Awards attracted 435 entries from 41 countries and 35 judges determined 214 winners for the 2024 round of the awards program.

According to Nerida Kelton, Executive Director of the AIP ‘We are extremely pleased that ANZ PIDA Winners have once again been internationally recognised with 16x awards across 8x categories including Packaging Materials & Components, Food, Other, Household, Health & Personal Care, E-Commerce, Labelling & Decoration and Alcoholic Beverages. Three of our innovations were recognised across multiple categories – the DualPakECO certified compostable food trays (Confoil/BASF), Wine Protector Packaging (Planet Protector Packaging) and KOi foaming handwash starter kit and refill solution by Coles Group. In addition first time entrant Australian Organic Food Co was recognised for the Australasian-first Minestrone Soup mono material retort pouch (Flavour Makers & Toppan) and Future Ecology – Emguard (Oji Fibre Solutions) from New Zealand.’

“The continued global recognition of Australian and New Zealand packaging designs is a testament to the strict criteria and judging process of our annual Australasian Packaging Innovation & Design (PIDA) Awards program and the supporting work undertaken by the AIP to ensure that our winners enter the WorldStar Packaging awards each year. We look forward to celebrating the winners on the 15th of June at the WorldStar Packaging Award ceremony which will be held alongside of ProPak Asia in Thailand.” She said.
