ABOUT:
With global plastic waste expected to reach 1.7 billion metric tonnes by 2060, the United Nations (UN) hosted a series of negotiations to deliver the world’s first treaty to control plastic pollution. The most recent was held in Geneva in August, with the intent being to create the first global and legally binding and historic agreement between over 175 countries. Unfortunately, at INC5.2 there was no resolution as was anticipated.
.
The development of the Global Plastic Pollution Treaty was designed to address the full lifecycle of plastics. This means not only looking at its disposal and waste management, but starting with plastic design, production and consumption. However, this mandate was disputed by many countries and was a major sticking point for many in the INC 5.2 meetings. Global targets and initiatives need to be matched with in-country action plans tailored to each country.
.
This State of Industry webinar will bring together five experts from Switzerland, Australia, Indonesia, New Zealand and the United States of America; who all attended and participated in the INC5.2 meetings.
.
During this panel discussion attendees will have the opportunity to find out what positive outcomes have been made in all 5 rounds, the path forward and what countries can still do with, or without a global treaty.
