Join the World Packaging Organisation on the seventh International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste to launch the new SusPAM: Sustainable Food Packaging Intervention Tool for Sustainable Food Systems that has been developed by UNIDO and Wageningen Food & Biobased Research.

The SusPAM methodology has been designed with scientific research to help guide stakeholders in the assessment of the sustainability of a packaging intervention.

The new methodology will provide a structured framework, outlining the steps required to objectively and holistically assess the sustainability of packaging interventions in food systems particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
.
The assessment is based on the three P’s model that considers the effects of human activity on three levels: People, Planet and Profit and includes key principles, steps and criteria to determine the feasibility and expected impact of packaging interventions.

SusPAM will serve as a foundation for developing interventions that enhance sustainability by reducing food losses and waste, reducing packaging environmental impact and supporting circular economy principles.
